BRUCE H. MacNAIR – Founder and CEO

Bruce MacNair has nearly two decades of professional experience in national security and defense. During the past 13 years he has served in numerous capacities providing direct, impactful, all source intelligence analysis and targeting development support specifically to counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) and counterterrorism operational missions of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), and U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) clients in multiple theatres of operation (OCONUS and CONUS). He is a highly knowledgeable subject matter expert, respected by his peers and counterparts at a variety of agencies, and a seasoned deployer whose ability to easily adapt to and work in austere and ever-changing environments allows him to maintain operational continuity and priority of effort between various levels of command in multi-agency/service/nation environments.

Mr. MacNair has served in numerous influential roles where he has made countless significant contributions though his support to a variety of DHS, DoD, federal law enforcement, and intelligence community (IC) missions focused on countering criminal, terrorist, and other threat networks/organizations. In 2004 he was awarded the Defense Intelligence Agency’s (DIA) Civilian Expeditionary Medal, for his service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mr. MacNair’s professional background includes significant, successful stints at recognized global consulting firms such as BAE Systems and Booz Allen Hamilton where he served as Senior Analyst, satisfied Program Management and other leadership roles, and successfully supported business development. He currently helps mentor other veterans and small businesses.

Mr. MacNair is a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG) from the United States Army Infantry School, Officer Candidate School (OCS), Fort Benning, GA. After serving as an active duty ordnance officer, Mr. MacNair (now a service-disabled veteran) transitioned to a career as a civilian contractor where he has made significant contributions to efforts involving critical infrastructure protection (CIP), advances and innovation related to the improved delivery of all source intelligence analysis, targeting development, and counter-threat finance focused analytical support to the operational missions of DoD, DHS, and federal law enforcement customers.

In 2011 Mr. MacNair founded Firebird Analytical Solutions & Technologies (Firebird AST), a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), which delivers dynamic, impactful analytical, and operational support to the special operations (SOF), DoD, IC, DHS, federal law enforcement, and information technology (IT) communities. Firebird AST also supports customers in the private sector seeking to improve their security posture and looking to make the most prudent, strategic decisions through dynamically improved knowledge and situational awareness. Due to its outstanding reputation and the heralded, cutting-edge work of its founding members and personnel, Firebird AST has already become a market-recognized leader with actionable strategic relationships.

Mr. MacNair holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. Before graduation and for years thereafter, he worked in the non-profit sector leading USAID supported trade and investment missions along with other democratization and free market reform programs focused on the Baltic Republics. In the community, Mr. MacNair serves as the president of the board of directors of his community association and also as a Cub Scout Den Leader. He is married and lives with his wife and their two children in Northern Virginia.


Randy Lange – Chief Strategy Officer

Randy Lange has nearly two decades of experience in the sales and delivery of professional services within the federal sector. He has built a reputation in the industry as a trusted advisor to decisionmakers within the public- and private sector ecosystem supporting the federal government. He has built a network of professional relationships that combines significant breadth in the Gov-Con market and specific depth in consulting services, IT, program management, and mission support. He has a proven track record of architecting and executing growth strategies across large and small firms through a combination of organic and acquisitive growth and understands the talent and temperament required to grow and scale companies in a turbulent market. He combines knowledge of BD process and infrastructure and marries it with a creative vision for growth and understanding of market trends.

Mr. Lange’s professional background includes successful stints at recognized global consulting firms such as Deloitte and Booz Allen Hamilton along with executive roles in highly successful small- and mid-tier firms. PMP certified, he started in program delivery and account management and progressively moved into additional leadership responsibility. Over the last decade, he’s served in multiple executive leadership roles that encompass strategy, execution, and business development culminating in his current chief strategy officer role with Firebird AST. He continues to advise a handful of small companies on matters of execution and growth.

Prior to joining Firebird AST, he served as the chief growth officer for Eagle Ray inc. While there, he created and implemented a growth strategy that resulted in 100 percent in top-line growth over two years. During his tenure the company was recognized as #3 on Washington Business Journal’s 50 fastest growing companies as well as #26 on Washington Technology’s “Fast 50” for the DC Metro Region. Previously he served in multiple executive leadership roles with IntelliWare Systems and Touchstone Consulting Group (now SRA International) with an emphasis on delivery of complex, large-scale national security programs and business development. He also had significant stints at globally recognized consulting firms Booz Allen Hamilton and Deloitte Consulting.

Mr. Lange is heavily engaged in multiple trade and industry associations in a leadership capacity. He sits on the Board of the Government Technology Services Coalition (GTSC)—a trade association representing small- and mid-tier government services firms—and also served as the founding chairman of its Business Development Exchange. He has past involvement with the Professional Service Council’s (PSC) Homeland Security Working Group, INSA, and SECAF.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Communications/Broadcasting from the University of Washington and a Master’s Degree in Justice and Public Policy from American University in DC. In the community, Mr. Lange gives time to youth sports. He sits on the Board of the Capitol Hill Little League and coaches both A and AA baseball. He is married and lives with his wife and their two boys on Capitol Hill.

Michelle Stanley – Chief Operating Officer

Michelle Stanley has a decade of experience in government contracting. She started in the industry by providing onsite training and assessments to the government client across the country. From there, she transitioned into leadership roles with Lockheed Martin, providing project management and team lead oversight to numerous government projects where she was recognized for outstanding achievements, receiving both a Special Recognition Award (SRA) and two SPOT awards.

Ms. Stanley is engaged with the Project Management Institute (PMI) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). She also maintains membership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and attends numerous small business sessions to continue to learn and help to expand Firebird AST.

She joined Firebird AST in 2016 as the Director of Human Resources and Recruiting and quickly helped to grow the company from 16 employees to nearly 30. Ms. Stanley helped to implement human resources and compliance programs and in December 2016 was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) and is responsible for all aspects of the company’s daily operations.   

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Marketing and a Minor in Communication Studies from California State University, Long Beach. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Communication Studies with an emphasis on Organizational and Interpersonal Communication from Arizona State University. In the community, Ms. Stanley gives time to non-profit organizations. She is married and lives with her husband and two young children in Northern Virginia.



Marie Fulop, MS, CFE – Director, Law Enforcement Programs

Marie Fulop has more than two decades of law enforcement experience, focused on investigating high-level career criminals and organized crime. Almost half of her career was spent working as a task force agent for federal government agencies, where she developed a reputation for yielding significant seizures and noteworthy cases. On several occasions, she received recognition and rewards for significant accomplishments in fraud cases from both the FBI and U.S. Secret Service.

In addition, Ms. Fulop has more than a decade of experience teaching criminal justice at the collegiate level. She has a passion for ed­­­ucation and is highly sought after as a teacher and mentor. She instructs new recruits at a Florida-based criminal justice academy interviewing, interrogation, and case report writing skills to support their development in the field. She continues to teach advanced classes to experienced law enforcement professionals, businesses, and financial institutions— ranging from basic fraud investigations (internal and external) to money laundering. She specializes in criminal law classes showing students how to incorporate the violation of law to the suspicious activity believed to be taking place. 

Ms. Fulop joined Firebird AST in 2016 as the Program Manager of its contract with the United States Secret Service.   Her years of experience in bringing agents together to share cases, build knowledge, and form teams of well-rounded investigators has been instrumental in Firebird’s strong performance on its prime contract. As Firebird’s director of law enforcement programs, Ms. Fulop serves as our senior law enforcement technical expert, thought leader, and market lead.   

Ms. Fulop holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Behavioral Science from Hodges University. She is a Certified Fraud Examiner with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. She is a member of the Association of Anti Money Laundering Specialists and was featured in their 2014 member spotlight ACAMS Today magazine.  She resides in Florida with her family, who have the same career paths.


Matt Thorne – Director, Defense and Intelligence Programs

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the Joint Improvised Threat Defeat Organization (JIDO), with nearly two decades of academic and professional experience in counterterrorism and asymmetric warfare issues, Matt Thorne has distinguished himself with excellence in the academic, defense, intelligence, and private sectors. As an active duty U.S. Marine, Mr. Thorne served as an Arabic linguist, providing translation support to U.S. Marine and U.S. Army operations in the Middle East. He worked and studied extensively in the Palestinian West Bank Territories, gaining singular expertise in Levantine regional issues. In recent years, he provided focused support to U.S. Department of Defense Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) efforts in the Middle East and Pacific regions.

Mr. Thorne holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Dalhousie University in 1998 with coursework in Middle Eastern languages and political studies at the University of Prince Edward Island and Birzeit University. He earned his Master’s degree in Linguistics at the University of Hawaii in 2016 and presented findings of his research in Saudi Arabic speech phonetics at the December 2016 Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America.

Mr. Thorne distinguished himself as an innovator, introducing and successfully leading proof-of-concept capabilities to U.S. Department of Defense contracts with CALNET Inc. and Lockheed Martin before joining the Firebird team in 2012. Mr. Thorne is currently based in Honolulu, HI, where he manages Firebird AST Defense and Intelligence Programs and leads Firebird AST support to Special Operations Command – Pacific.
